Naturally, the schedule is part planning, part whimsy, part luck, and a roll of the dice when it comes to getting all the bureaucratic stuff completed in time to schedule, audition, cast, rehearse and produce a show. There are times when the elements just seem to conspire against doing a particular show— so we stress (in no uncertain terms!) that scheduled and hoped for shows may not actually come to pass; especially within the time frame that we're putting forth here with much trepidation.
Please note—when things simply don't gel into a production, it's often a matter of rights approvals not arriving in time to get things done. Sometimes, even allowing three or four months BEFORE a scheduled audition (that's five months before production!) is still not enough to get performance rights approved. And, of course, when that happens, the show does not go on. If rights are cleared a week after scheduled auditions, that's about two months too late.
Here's something else few people realize—there's no guarantee that the copyright holder will allow a theater to do their play. Sometimes this is simply a geographic consideration: the play is scheduled three months away from your projected opening night, in a location that's only 50 miles from the theater. That's especially frustrating when you're trying to plan a schedule which seems a sure thing, then find out the play is simply not available unless you decide to do it in June instead of December. Yikes.
In any case, we hope this explanation alleviates any frustration you may encounter if you are looking forward to seeing a show nine months down the road, and it simply fizzles away.
Coming Soon ...we hope
